In a medium saucepan, add water, cinnamon, piloncillo, or dark sugar, and cook until boiling and the sugar dissolves. When the water has boiled and the piloncillo has dissolved, add the Mexican coffee grounds, turn off the heat and stir.

Cover the pan and let it sit for 5 minutes, pour into a cup using a strainer so that the coffee grounds do not enter the cup. For those who like to drink alcohol, you can add Kahlua.

Ingredients

Ingredients for 4 servings

  • 4 cups of water
  • 3 oz. Piloncillo or dark brown sugar about ⅓ cup
  • ½ a stick of Mexican Cinnamon
  • 4 Tablespoons of ground Coffee, if you can get black ground coffee, that would be even better.

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, add the water, cinnamon, and piloncillo or brown sugar. Turn on the heat and let it boil until the sugar dissolves. This may take 5 to 7 minutes.
  2. When the water is boiling, add the Mexican coffee grounds, turn off the heat and stir.
  3. Cover the pan and let the spices steep for 5 minutes, then pour through a strainer into cups.

Notes
